George Ashby (1724-1808), clergyman and antiquarian, was educated at Eton College and St. John's College, Cambridge. Although he published little himself, he was a correspondent of John Nichols, Thomas Percy, John Gough, James Granger, Daines Barrington, and others and contributed to their work on a number of scholarly topics.
